Newer Year

the holiday season for me is something to endure, not to celebrate. i’m happy to join in on other’s cheer when it suits me, but the mandated ritual of americhristmas has long overstepped it’s humble, religious beginnings. i think thanksgiving fits the bill more successfully… food, family, friends and football… jesus would be proud.
new years isn’t much better. i’ve made a party of it many times, but again, it’s someone else’s idea of how to mark a dubious milestone. i’ll take the days off work, but i’d rather not booze it up on a special night as an amateur among amateurs, or worse, slump in the new year with a televised countdown. so i roadtripped it down to Joshua Tree National Park for a few days. intended to take the bike, but i can’t trust the electrical at the moment… (might have left me stranded out of cell range… and worse, i’d have to ride through Buttonwillow fully exposed without a cage… Buttonwillow is the most aesthetically deficient unincorporated suckhole on the planet… gas staions, chain hotels and fast food… a failure town on the sadness scale… and almost shamed by Indio, but not quite).
warmth, nature, hiking, lots of solitude and little bit of camping… my way and the highway.
